About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Safety Manager to support the WEXMAC Camp East Montana contract in El Paso, TX. The Safety Manager will collaborate with site program management to maintain environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, including policies, processes, procedures, and controls. This role ensures contract performance aligns with established standards and governmental agency guidelines to achieve customer satisfaction. The Safety Manager will manage, implement, and maintain required environmental operation procedures, ensuring company and employee awareness and adherence to approved EHS practices for the assigned program. Responsibilities include conducting quality and safety inspections/audits of contract operations and subcontractors, preparing hazard and environmental waste programs, manuals, and revisions, and coordinating audits on health/safety/environmental and maintenance programs. The role also involves responding to customer concerns and findings, tracking corrective actions, providing guidance for compliance with safety and quality standards, and acting as a direct representative of Amentum to the customer. Additionally, the Safety Manager will establish and communicate program metrics, stay informed of regulatory changes, disseminate safety-related information, investigate mishaps and injuries, maintain the technical library, ensure proper reporting of injuries, incidents, HAZMAT, and adverse trends, and monitor quality deficiencies to coordinate corrective actions. Leadership and knowledge sharing with staff members and teams are also key aspects of this position, along with performing other qualified duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years’ progressively responsible experience in any combination within program management, plant & operations management, or safety & environmental compliance.
  • Advanced knowledge of EHS policies and processes.
  • Working knowledge of compliance with Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) handling.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Project planning and management skills.
  • Ability to get results through influence, negotiation and teamwork.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Working knowledge of quality management, its concepts, techniques, tools and procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental, health and safety management or other associated discipline preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and knowledge to staff members and teams as necessary.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
  • Complete all training requirements and fulfill all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities.
  • Participate in emergency response tasks and serve on safety committees and teams.
  • Conform to the Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Read and understand Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
  • Read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to the job.
