About the position

The Safety and Wellness Coordinator at the Washington State Department of Agriculture is responsible for coordinating statewide safety and health regulations and wellness guidance across six divisions in 20 counties. This role ensures compliance with occupational safety and health standards, advises on safety practices, and develops wellness programs to promote healthy lifestyles among employees.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate safety meetings with the agency's Commodity Inspection Division to ensure compliance with state laws.
  • Organize and conduct safety inspections and risk assessments at agency facilities and field sites.
  • Manage accident reporting and job hazard analysis for occupational safety and health hazards.
  • Regulate safety practices in accordance with OSHA and WISHA requirements.
  • Develop processes for health and wellness programs and promote wellness initiatives.
  • Plan and implement wellness training classes and events for agency staff.
  • Assist in the development of budget, policies, and procedures for the wellness program.
  • Provide educational presentations and training programs on safety and wellness.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, industrial hygiene, business or public administration, education, or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in occupational safety and health programs, or a master's degree in a related field may substitute for experience.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Defensive Driver Instructor Certified, HAZWOPER 40 Instructor Certified, Wilderness First Aid Instructor Certified, and Associate Safety Professional Certification (ASP).
  • Ability to read and write in both English and Spanish.
