About the position
The Special Education Paraeducator at George Moscone Elementary School plays a crucial role in supporting students with severe impairments under the guidance of a teacher or administrator. This position focuses on delivering direct instruction and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) to help students achieve mastery in basic skills and content areas. The paraeducator will assist in various classroom activities, including lesson implementation, record-keeping, and operating instructional equipment, while fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting for pupils with severe impairments.
- Implement lesson plans and activities, including reviewing and correcting student work.
- Participate in parent conferences and proctor examinations.
- Keep relevant records and operate instructional equipment as needed.
- Translate and adapt materials to and from English into specific languages as required by the assignment.
Requirements
- An Associate's Degree or higher, or 48 college units and a high school diploma, or passing of the CBEST and a high school diploma.
- Familiarity with teaching methods, instructional media, and school organization.
- Ability to act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
Nice-to-haves
- Conversational and written skills in a specific language(s) other than English related to the needs of the assignment.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
