About the position
The RN Telephone Advice/Triage Nurse at PIH Health plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality nursing care through telephonic advice and triage services. This full-time position requires the nurse to assess patients' health needs, provide medical advice, and facilitate referrals to appropriate healthcare resources. The role emphasizes the importance of effective communication, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently while adhering to established protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments using standard protocols and procedures.
- Provide expert nursing advice for patients with urgent or emergent health issues over the phone.
- Make safe and effective dispositions, including referrals to primary care and specialty providers.
- Educate callers about their immediate healthcare needs based on nursing principles and practices.
- Handle incoming calls and assist with processing prescription refills and faxing prescriptions.
Requirements
- Current and unrestricted RN CA state licensure.
- Current BLS card issued by the American Heart Association.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Science (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in an emergency room or urgent care setting.
- Strong interview, communication, and customer service skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a manner understandable by the patient.
- Critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
- Experience in direct nursing care in the Ambulatory Care Setting.
- A background in telephone triage.
