About The Position

This role involves supervising, assessing, planning, coordinating, facilitating, and evaluating patient care and staff development within the Operating Room at Shea Medical Center. The RN Supervisor will determine and maintain unit or program needs and standards, using the nursing process and evidence-based information. They will assist the Clinical Director in managing the unit's staff and patient population, and will also provide direct patient care as needed. A key aspect of this role is ensuring staff have knowledge of stroke symptoms, warning signs, protocols, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation, quality indicators, patient education materials, and community resources. Requirements

  • 2 years of RN Circulating Operating Room experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN, BScN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution
  • Legally licensed to work as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona
  • BLS Healthcare Provider Training Course
  • Must obtain a certification in their respective area of expertise within 1 year of hire or promotion date for magnet standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, assesses, plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates patient care and staff development.
  • Determines and maintains unit or program needs and standards using the nursing process and evidence-based information.
  • Assists the Clinical Director in the management of the unit's assigned staff and patient population.
  • Provides direct patient care according to the needs of the unit/program and collaborates with physicians in executing the medical plan of care.
  • Ensures staff have knowledge of stroke symptoms, warning signs, protocols, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation, quality indicators, patient education materials, and community resources.
  • Oversees staff, ensuring adequate patient care, including hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees.
  • Ensures employee productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Establishes or contributes to patient care plans, including administering medication, checking dosages, avoiding interactions, starting/maintaining/discontinuing IV lines, administering therapies, observing patients, recording observations, and consulting with physicians and other clinicians.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and financial stewardship through accountability for the department budget.
  • Serves as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, and promote a healthy work environment.
  • Teaches patients and families about managing illnesses/injuries, post-treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy.
  • Facilitates inter/intra departmental collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Participates in policy revisions and committees applicable to the department.
  • Participates in the creation, implementation, and follow-up of unit goals and action planning.
  • Contributes to the recruitment and retention of staff through positive role-modeling, fostering peer relationships, staff education, and participating in preceptor/mentor programs.
  • Coordinates educational and professional activities related to department/unit needs.
  • Regularly rounds with physicians, patients, or families to facilitate quality practice and improve the patient experience.
  • Utilizes the nursing process and evidence-based practice to provide patient care and evaluate the patient’s plan of care.
  • Initiates and supports quality improvement initiatives and utilizes resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Directs staff in the application of the nursing process.
  • Provides direction, coordinates patient care, promotes, and enhances independent functioning among employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
