About the position

The RN Staff Nurse (Registered Nurse) is a licensed professional nurse who provides care and services to residents in a long-term care setting under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Services. This role involves delivering quality patient care, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to maintain residents' well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care as prescribed by physician/health care professional in accordance with legal scope of practice and established standards.
  • Administers professional services to help residents attain or maintain their highest practicable physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • Admits, transfers, and discharges residents in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Orients new residents and families as necessary.
  • Gives and receives nursing reports at the beginning and end of assigned shifts.
  • Conducts daily resident rounds to assess and evaluate residents' status and implement or revise nursing interventions.
  • Records care information accurately and timely in the medical record.
  • Initiates, reviews, revises, and updates resident Plans of Care as indicated.
  • Prepares and administers medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Completes medical treatments as indicated and ordered by the physician.
  • Assures that narcotic and controlled drugs are secure and inventory counts are accurate.
  • Orders prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as established by facility policies.
  • Informs the RN Supervisor or RN in charge of resident status and related matters.
  • Attends various facility meetings as required.
  • Reports allegations of abuse or unusual occurrences per regulations and facility policy.
  • Initiates emergency procedures and provides emergency patient treatments.
  • Participates in the facility's infection control program.
  • Assists in the orientation of newly assigned personnel.
  • Assumes Charge responsibility following orientation period as requested.
  • Supervises CNAs and assists in identifying and correcting problem areas in resident care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN school of nursing.
  • Current nursing license in good standing with the State licensing board.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide quality patient care in accordance with applicable standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate clinical data.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable nursing principles and practices.
  • Willingness to work with professional and nonprofessional personnel.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
