About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the A4 Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at CHRISTUS Health is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with complex medical needs. This role requires independent practice, critical thinking, and the ability to manage clinical situations effectively. The RN will utilize the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while also addressing the psychological, emotional, and social needs of patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to protocols, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care and functions in the assigned unit during shifts.
  • Incorporate patient safety practices to promote a safe environment and positive patient outcomes.
  • Communicate patient information effectively across the continuum of care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty (preferred).
  • BLS certification required.
  • RN License in the state of employment or compact.
  • ACLS certification within 90 days of hire for new graduates; within 30 days for experienced nurses.
  • PALS certification within 90 days of hire for new graduates; within 30 days for experienced nurses.
  • TNCC certification within 18 months for new hires and experienced nurses new to the specialty; within 60 days for experienced nurses in the specialty.
  • TCAR certification within 18 months for new hires and experienced nurses new to the specialty; within 60 days for experienced nurses in the specialty.
  • CPI/De-Escalation training within 12 months of hire.
