About The Position

This is a full-time day shift position in an acute care hospital setting, specifically on the Joint & Spine/ Neuroscience Unit (Med Surg 3). This 17-bed hybrid unit specializes in acute CVA's and TIA's, as well as post-operative care for knee, hip, and spinal surgery patients. The unit also manages all types of general medical/surgical patients. The position utilizes the EPIC electronic health record and incorporates various quality initiatives and standards of practice, including bedside report, purposeful rounding, pain assessment, pressure ulcer prevention, and infection prevention strategies. The unit is supported by a dedicated unit educator, a charge nurse who is out of staffing or has a limited patient load, virtual nurses for admissions and discharges, a Nurse Extern program, a Residency program, and a Career Advancement Program (CAP).

Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • No experience required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure
  • Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support
  • ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) within 180 Days
  • PALS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)Experienced Emergency Department nurses will have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification. within 180 Days
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification – prior to independent chemotherapy administration Upon Hire
  • PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)PEARS or PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Athens Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) within 180 Days
  • PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU – ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)OR – BLS required only within 180 Days
  • Labor and Delivery-ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date
  • Mother/Baby- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • NICU- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • NAT (Newborn Admission Team)- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • Nursery- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • NRP by the end of orientation period within 180 Days

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital experience highly preferred
  • 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions
  • Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable
  • CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients.
  • Functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability.
  • Maintains standards of practice and coordinates patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
  • Performs patient assessments, including collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, and health history.
  • Evaluates the developmental age of the patient when performing assessments, treatments, and patient/family education.
  • Organizes patient data into a plan of care, identifies additional information needed, makes care decisions based on identified needs, and identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Carries out the plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides patient care specific to the setting, identified needs, and plan, ensuring care is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment, or disability.
  • Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members.
  • Identifies teaching opportunities and provides necessary resources for achieving patient educational goals.
  • Communicates issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager, and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.
