The Oncology Clinic RN provides quality nursing care to patients experiencing hematological/oncological/gynecological treatments and disease management including knowledge and skills to provide chemotherapy and biotherapy agents safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manages patient care in the oncology/infusion/clinic area.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance to Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy guidelines.
  • Follows KHN policy and procedures for chemotherapy administration and follows safety practices for patients, visitors and self.
  • Responsible for knowledge of drugs/chemotherapy/biotherapy treatments and procedures provided.
  • Evaluate and initiate IV access, central line management and assessment of port function.
  • Ongoing patient assessment prior to, during and following administration of treatment.
  • Able to ascertain patient symptoms in relation to patient's regimen and other oncologic modalities of treatment.
  • Able to assess and recognize oncologic emergencies and intervene appropriately.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients and their families in relation to their cancer treatment & diagnosis.
  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with staff members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Documents all patient contact within the EMR.
  • Able to utilize the oncology Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for all charting, charging, retrieval of orders, scheduling, etc.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (NLN or CCNE) if they are a new graduate nurse.
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred (must be completed within 5 years of hire).
  • ONS chemotherapy and Biotherapy administration certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire).
  • OCN certification highly preferred.
  • At least one year of oncology nursing experience required with preference given to RN's with oncology clinic experience.
  • Experience with oncology EMR preferred.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS as determined by unit scope of practice.
