This role utilizes the nursing process and critical thinking in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to care for patients. The RN performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care. They administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies, procedures, standards of care, and state laws/practice acts. Accurate and comprehensive documentation is essential. The RN develops, initiates, and executes a patient plan of care based on individual needs, as prescribed by the physician and/or hospital policy. They utilize available resources to teach and support patient and family education, providing information at an appropriate level of understanding. Participation in department or unit performance improvement activities, including shared governance, is expected. The RN uses clinical expertise and guidance to support the patient's longitudinal plan of care across units/departments, resolving systems breakdowns and engaging in problem-solving. Critical thinking is applied to patient safety and experience, managing complex situations and delegating appropriately. Escalation to the appropriate chain of command is necessary. The role positively influences professional and organizational environments and shared governance. Engagement in personal development and support for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines, is encouraged. Peer review and feedback opportunities are supported. Clinic and Ambulatory RNs will maintain timely patient flow, respond to telephone calls, and perform telephone triage.
