7 North West is a 33-bed unit specializing in bariatric, urological, colorectal, reconstructive plastic, and general surgeries. The unit also cares for medical patients, particularly those with digestive and abdominal disorders. The team strives to provide high-quality, patient- and family-centered care. Along with its sister unit, 7 NE, it is designated as a Bariatric unit at Royal Oak Corewell Health and is recognized with Bariatric Accreditation by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Royal Oak Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the #2 hospital in Michigan and a top hospital nationally. It is a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. The hospital has earned Magnet designation four consecutive times and houses Michigan’s first Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence. The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process framework to provide professional nursing care, incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patients/families, documenting education and learning appropriately in the health record.
