About the position
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the 5N Cardiovascular Thoracic Telemetry unit at the University of Southern California (USC) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in a supportive and therapeutic environment. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while also coordinating education for patients and their families. The RN will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care and patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough nursing assessments upon patient admission and at each shift change.
- Formulate nursing diagnoses based on assessment information.
- Develop and document individualized plans of care with expected patient outcomes.
- Administer medications and IV therapy as prescribed, ensuring compliance with policies.
- Delegate tasks appropriately based on team members' competencies.
- Provide patient and family education regarding care and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with case managers and physicians for effective discharge planning.
- Utilize patient care equipment safely and according to guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and patients.
- Manage time effectively to complete responsibilities and take breaks without incurring overtime.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or grandfathered if hired prior to 12/2019.
- 1 year of acute inpatient hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, including blood collection and apheresis procedures.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
