This role utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. The RN administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act. They perform assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, documenting according to standards. The RN develops, initiates, and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy, including patient and family instruction. They utilize available resources to teach and support patient and family education, providing education to the appropriate level of understanding. The RN acts to resolve systems breakdowns and engages self and others in providing solutions. They participate in department or unit performance improvement activities, which may include shared governance. The RN utilizes clinical expertise and guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care. They use critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalate to the appropriate chain of command. The RN participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit/department practice activities and decisions, and the peer review process. They positively influence the professional and organizational environments and shared governance. The RN engages in personal development and supports system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines. Illinois requires 10 hours of continued education for licensure.
