About the position

This position involves consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. The role includes conducting pre- and post-operative education, serving as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team, and monitoring patients' vital signs. The nurse ensures that the correct patient and procedure are being performed, provides basic bedside care, and prepares and administers medications according to state and federal guidelines. The nurse is also responsible for responding to life-saving situations, recording care information accurately and timely, prepping the operating room for procedures, and monitoring patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum. Additionally, the nurse initiates patient education plans as prescribed by the physician and maintains working phone access to take surgical calls as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
  • Conducts pre- and post-operative education
  • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team
  • Takes and monitors patients' vital signs
  • Ensures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed
  • Provides basic, bedside care
  • Prepares and administers medications through all routes and records medications per policy
  • Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy
  • Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner
  • Preps operating room for patient/procedure
  • Initiates corrective action whenever monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology
  • Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum
  • Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician
  • Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs
  • Maintains working phone access and agrees to take surgical call per unit needs
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program
  • BLS, ACLS within 120 days of employment
  • Current Missouri RN license, in good standing with Missouri Board of Nursing
