About the position

The RN / BSN position in Orthopedics at Jackson General involves providing quality patient care under the supervision of the Director and Clinical Manager. The role includes performing patient assessments, coordinating care, administering medications, and supervising nursing staff. The nurse will also be responsible for ensuring continuity of care and effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial patient assessment utilizing the nursing process and age-specific needs.
  • Prescribe and update the plan of care for each patient as necessary.
  • Document initial assessments and patient care in medical records.
  • Coordinate and perform bedside care of patients, assisting or delegating skilled procedures.
  • Administer or supervise the administration of medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products.
  • Inform physicians of patients' conditions and assist with treatments and examinations.
  • Supervise patient care given by nursing personnel and evaluate standards of care daily.
  • Prioritize physician's orders appropriately.
  • Communicate with patients and families, providing emotional support and discharge planning.
  • Check emergency equipment and drugs on the unit each shift as required.
  • Act as primary caregiver, team leader, or charge nurse when assigned.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel and serve as a role model.
  • Communicate patient and unit operation information to other shifts and managers.
  • Provide assistance to ambulance personnel and community agencies as needed.
  • Ensure proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.

Requirements

  • Completion of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in nursing required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
  • Responsible for Continuing Education Units annually.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period and kept current.
  • ACLS & PALS certification preferred.
  • NRP certification must be obtained within one year of employment and kept current.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in area of clinical expertise by a recognized authoritative agency desirable.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
