About The Position

The City of Grand Junction is seeking a qualified candidate with municipal experience who can effectively manage risk and safety programs across our thirteen departments and promote a culture of safety within our organization. As the Risk and Safety Administrator, you will develop program goals, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with safety legislation and industry practices. You will also conduct investigations and safety audits and provide a training curriculum to minimize worker injury and property damage. Reporting directly to the Risk and Safety Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of a Safety Coordinator and work collaboratively with Risk Management. The successful candidate will have considerable experience leading safety programs, strong technical and field experience, and demonstrate a proven ability to build relationships with staff at all levels within the organization. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in risk management, safety program development and implementation, public health administration, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related field.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D supplemented by specialized training in occupational health and safety or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a safe and secure work environment for employees.
  • Develop and implement safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering a culture of proactive risk prevention.
  • Train and educate employees by providing programs and workshops about safety procedures, emergency response, and proper use of safety equipment, ensuring employees have the necessary knowledge to perform jobs safely.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents; identify root causes and develop strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
  • Monitor and track safety performance.
  • Collaborate with departments to implement safety measures and integrate safety practices into their processes.
  • Continually evaluate and improve safety programs, policies, and procedures based on feedback, industry best practices, and emerging trends.
