About the position
The Right of Way Agent is responsible for coordinating right of way projects essential for construction throughout the state. This role involves hands-on participation in all phases of right of way activities, including title research, negotiations with property owners, and providing relocation assistance. The agent also oversees right of way activities of local public agencies and must comply with applicable laws and DOTD policies. The position requires statewide travel and is based in the Real Estate office in Kenner, LA.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate right of way projects for construction throughout the state.
- Conduct title research in various courthouses and prepare title research reports.
- Negotiate with property owners for the acquisition of right of way and servitude.
- Provide relocation assistance to displacees as needed.
- Oversee right of way activities of local public agencies.
- Prepare documents such as Project Notification Letters and Just Compensation Offer Letters.
- Monitor consultant activities on right of way service contracts.
- Maintain electronic status reporting programs and compile project status reports.
- Prepare deeds of acquisition and record them in appropriate courthouses.
- Assist in the relocation of family units and businesses for right of way projects.
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree or six years of full-time work experience in any field as a substitute.
- Ability to make accurate judgments based on relevant information.
- Strong negotiation skills to reach consensus among conflicting interests.
- Critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate information.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
