About The Position

Under limited supervision, leads the work activities of assigned staff including assigning, delegating, reviewing, and authorizing various work outputs; prepares management reports; advises staff on complex taxpayer assistance matters; acts as supervisor in the absence of Revenue Agent Supervisor or Revenue Manager; performs related work as assigned. Duties include: 1. Leads the work activities of assigned staff to include planning, assigning, delegating, reviewing, and authorizing work. 2. Ensures consistent application of administrative and program policies, procedures, and standards. 3. Prepares various management reports including staff work activity reports for administration. 4. Answers complex questions regarding tax regulations, statutes, rulings, etc. in the various tax programs. 5. Assists the public and agency personnel in dealing with, or resolving unique or difficult tax questions or situations. 6. Responsible for training of staff in taxpayer assistance, acting as a work leader, answering staff's day to day questions regarding regulations, statutes, and rulings for business and individual income tax programs, and Department procedures for writing internal individual income tax adjustments. 7. Coordinates the work schedule of staff to ensure taxpayers are assisted in a timely manner. 8. Responsible for answering and/or distributing the Department's business and individual income tax email correspondence. 9. Trains staff in answering business and individual income tax written correspondence, including the request for internal adjustments to correct taxpayer's accounts. 10. Updates and/or develops procedures for the job duties assigned to staff. 11. Prepares, reviews and edits tax returns for both business and individual income tax and assists taxpayers with electronic filing and payments. 12. Process lottery claims and train staff in lottery processing procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in business plus two years of experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations.
  • OR Three years of increasingly responsible experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations.
  • Knowledge of: mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; resources available for researching tax laws, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to: communicate to express clear and concise ideas; utilize interpretive techniques to determine information sought; organize and verify tax data/information from computer generated reports; set priorities; relate effectively with people representing a wide variety of backgrounds; interpret difficult tax programs for taxpayers; determine why a taxpayer is not in compliance or adjustments are necessary to make corrections to various business tax and individual income tax accounts; use independent judgment and plan, assign and monitor the work of others.
