About the position

The Revenue Cycle Representative (RCR) at Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) is responsible for ensuring effective collections on all patient accounts and supporting the Revenue Cycle Manager in various revenue cycle functions. This role involves collaboration with health center staff, Insurance Benefit Coordinators, and Medical Billers to evaluate patient charges, monitor accounts, and respond to inquiries, all while adhering to corporate compliance standards and promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Perform charge review of self-pay encounters.
  • Collaborate with Billing and IBC staff to identify potential to bill insurance or enroll in state-sponsored insurance programs.
  • Process payments from patients and maintain accurate patient account records.
  • Reconcile and post self-pay payment batches from Phreesia and InstaMed.
  • Answer patient calls and address questions related to insurance and patient responsibility.
  • Perform systematic, consistent, and timely collection follow-up on accounts with outstanding balances.
  • Establish payment plans and follow up on patient accounts with established payment plans.
  • Review patient statement reports for accuracy and prepare statements.
  • Review unapplied payment reports and apply payments accordingly.
  • Process credit balances and donation request letters in a timely manner.
  • Perform small balance write-offs and bad debt adjustments.
  • Review Lab Reports, reconcile with PM, and submit to Finance for payment.
  • Perform job duties in a confidential, ethical, and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with staff in other functional areas to meet internal goals.
  • Interpret and apply policies; recommend changes or workflow improvements.
  • Notify Revenue Cycle Manager of any collection or workflow issues.
  • Assist with training of other staff.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, both internal and external.
  • Demonstrate commitment to exceeding customer expectations and effective problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in business, accounting, finance or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of experience in medical billing/collections.
  • Minimum three years of experience with computerized billing/receivables system; NextGen practice management experience preferred.
  • Experience with CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 coding; ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to read, interpret, analyze and apply information from various sources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
