About the position

The Retail Shift Supervisor at MERS Goodwill is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the store, ensuring excellent customer service, and managing staff performance. This role supports the mission of changing lives through work and embodies the core values of the organization. The supervisor will lead a team, handle customer interactions, and ensure compliance with company policies while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and train assigned staff to ensure they perform their essential functions.
  • Provide superior internal and external customer service to ensure repeat donors, shoppers, and staff retention.
  • Coach and counsel employees regarding their job performance, including disciplinary actions if necessary.
  • Exercise independent judgment in assigning daily job duties to achieve operational tasks.
  • Identify and recommend employees for advancement based on performance.
  • Safeguard company property and personal information from harm or theft, reporting any incidents appropriately.
  • Read, follow, model, and enforce all agency policies, procedures, and values.
  • Utilize efficient staffing methods to ensure appropriate store staffing and arrange for replacements when necessary.
  • Audit, edit, and approve payroll to eliminate wasteful practices through process improvement.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in adherence to MERS Goodwill's dress code.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • 1 year of management experience or previous Goodwill retail or warehouse experience.
  • Valid MO or IL state driver's license and insurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including customer service and conflict resolution.
  • Leadership skills including decision-making, motivation, goal-setting, and problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with workplace technology such as registers, scheduling, and inventory management software.
