Retail Fishing Manager

About the position

As an Orvis Retail Fishing Manager, you support the Store Manager in recruiting, developing, and encouraging the team of associates to inspire customers to love the adventure and wonder in nature. You oversee all aspects of the fly-fishing department, where the soul of the brand comes to life. As a sales floor leader, you embody Orvis core values as you deliver world-class customer service, whether it is outfitting a customer for the trip of a lifetime or teaching a group of new fly fishers how to cast for the first time. Your relationship with the community is not bound within the walls of the store - you actively engage fly fishers of all skill levels through education, support, and genuine enthusiasm.

Responsibilities

• Empower your team to deliver world-class customer service through empathy, critical thinking, and customer centricity.
• Act as an ambassador of the brand, aligned with the Orvis Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Culture.
• Possess in-depth knowledge of products and services and serve as point person for training fly fishing associates on technical product knowledge, rigging, and instruction.
• Lead by example as a sales professional, engaging customers in all departments throughout the store.
• Be entrepreneurial and leverage assets across Orvis' omnichannel retail platform.
• Communicate the Orvis brand and its lifestyle through creative and effective presentations, maintain visual standards, and maximize sell-thru by product placement and signage.
• In coordination with the Store Manager, recruit, develop, train, and coach associates who are bought into the company's vision and mission, and create a pathway for growth.

Requirements

• Independent leaders who can learn on the fly, demonstrate integrity and mutual respect, and create a fun and energetic store vibe.
• Passion for the outdoors with strong expertise in fly fishing and fly tying, and a love for sharing knowledge.
• Excellent retail business acumen including selling skills, visual presentation, and sales analysis.
• Ability to handle ambiguity, use sound judgement, and solve problems for customers and associates.
• Up-to-date computer skills with the aptitude to learn and utilize business programs as well as the ability to teach these programs to the team.
• Physical strength to reach, move, and handle merchandise in high and low areas, lift up to 30 pounds, and the stamina to execute floor sets.
• Physical ability to be on feet (standing/walking) for extended periods of time.
