About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist participates in planning, delivering, controlling and evaluating safe and effective diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory therapy services.

Requirements

  • A copy of your highest science-related academic diploma or transcript required upon hire.
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist in accordance with the State of Oregon.
  • Registered with The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • American Heart Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90-days of hire.
  • ACLS or required within six (6) months of hire.
  • PALS or required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively document in electronic medical record.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to write legibly.
  • Professional appearance makes a good first impression.
  • Demonstrates effective skills in working as part of a team.
  • Willing to be on standby rotation on occasion.
  • Uses equipment properly according to departmental procedures and/or manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Follows policies for disposal of hazardous waste and sharps.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
  • Demonstrates appropriate technique in handling blood and body fluid as outlined in hospital policy, including proper use of PPE.
  • Provides care appropriate to the neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients served based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
  • Functions efficiently in emergency situations, following policies.
  • Prioritizes tasks effectively in critical situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Care from and accredited program.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in critical respiratory care.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist in state of practice.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs respiratory diagnostic testing, including stress treadmill testing and EKG’s.
  • Performs respiratory treatments as listed on the orientation checklist according to departmental procedures.
  • Administers respiratory medication safely following hospital and departmental policies.
  • Documents assessments, treatments and medications accurately utilizing hospital and departmental formats.
  • As a member of the Code Blue team, provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Maintains emergency resuscitation equipment and other equipment, in proper working condition.
  • Participates in establishing a system to maintain a clean, well-organized, safe environment; reports potential safety hazards.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate respiratory therapy supplies in the department and in-patient care areas.
  • Participates in evaluation of new procedures and equipment.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information
  • Participates with physicians, therapists and other members of the health team in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of care plans for respiratory patients.
  • Organizes, delivers, and evaluates respiratory care based on physician’s orders and individual needs of the patient.
  • Instructs patients and caregivers about respiratory treatments and issues.
  • Participates in a comprehensive inter-shift report of all patients receiving respiratory services and other reportable information.
  • Executes round to cardiopulmonary patients and assesses status.
  • Reports discrepancies in care through proper mechanism.
  • Assists in maintaining quality assurance monitors as communicated with Department Manager.
  • Participates in retrospective analysis of all aspects of respiratory care in accordance with JCAHO standards.
  • Participates in all required meetings.
  • Reports unexpected changes in patient condition.
  • Participates in ongoing education and staff development programs.
  • Assists with EEGs as needed.
