About The Position

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will evaluate, treat, monitor, and manage patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions across a variety of inpatient settings. You will play a vital role in delivering advanced respiratory care, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. This position offers exposure to a broad range of respiratory therapies, critical care interventions, and emergency response situations.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Current Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist License
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within 6 months of hire
  • Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments
  • Experience caring for medically complex and critically ill patients
  • Commitment to patient safety and infection prevention
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and continuing education

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care setting

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and determine respiratory treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and nursing staff
  • Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and therapeutic gases
  • Deliver and evaluate respiratory treatments to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory equipment, inhaler techniques, smoking cessation, and disease management
  • Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response Team activations
  • Assist with endotracheal intubation and extubation procedures
  • Manage patients requiring advanced respiratory support
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary critical care rounds
  • Operate and manage ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and related respiratory equipment
  • Monitor ventilator settings, volumes, pressures, and patient response
  • Perform ventilator mechanics including: RSBI, NIF, Airway Resistance (Raw), Respiratory Rate, Minute Ventilation
  • Perform arterial blood gas punctures and analysis
  • Monitor patient responses through: Vital signs, Blood gas results, Laboratory values, Clinical assessments
  • Document and communicate patient status and treatment outcomes
  • Support and mentor respiratory care students and new team members
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff
  • Collaborate across inpatient units and ICU settings
  • Provide guidance to CRTs and limited-license respiratory staff
