About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs specialized therapy services as prescribed by provider orders and in accordance with protocol policies and procedures established by UMC. Daily assignments may include performing diagnostic tests for adult and pediatric patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders, providing assessment, treatment, and monitoring of cardiopulmonary disorders across the continuum of care, treating patients using oxygen and oxygen mixtures, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy, communicating effectively to the care team concerning patient’s condition, results of diagnostic studies, and responses to treatment plans, obtaining documentation and completing patient progress notes, and adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of practice as defined by the National Board of Respiratory Care, DNV, and UMC departmental standard policy and procedure manual. Additional responsibilities for a Transport Therapist include utilizing UMC Flight protocols to provide quality respiratory care to patients throughout the transport process, properly utilizing aircraft radios and navigation tools to assist in the safe transport of patients, and representing the UMC Flight Team in public relations and safety in-service events. The position requires a commitment of a minimum of 10 call shifts per month.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • +1 year of clinical experience, preferably in hospital based respiratory care
  • (RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist, registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Must be able to apply the theory of cardiac pulmonary medicine under the bylaws of the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and express independent judgement
  • Know techniques of assisting and handling patients
  • Be able to make decisions independently
  • Possess a high degree of accuracy in executing prescriptions, receiving and translating information, charting, and reporting

Nice To Haves

  • + 2 years of respiratory clinical experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care
  • + 1 year as NICU/PICU Flight therapist
  • NPS (Neonatal Pediatric Specialist with the National Board of Respiratory Care)
