About The Position

Hart Medical Equipment is seeking a patient-focused Respiratory Therapist Assistant to provide and coordinate respiratory care services under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. This role involves observing, assessing, and monitoring patient responses to respiratory services, developing and implementing treatment plans, and managing PAP therapy. The position also includes non-clinical support for oxygen, suction, and basic tracheostomy setup. Responsibilities extend to patient education, equipment maintenance, and administrative tasks such as charting, coordinating prescriptions, and gathering insurance information. The role requires providing customer service support and being available for on-call assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One year of durable medical equipment, hospital, or other relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good data entry skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, with strong typing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle in good working condition in order to perform home visits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate respiratory care services under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • Observe, assess, and monitor patient response to limited respiratory services.
  • Develop, implement, and modify respiratory treatment plans based on clinical pathways, referrals, and physician orders.
  • Apply, operate, and manage PAP therapy.
  • Provide non-clinical support of oxygen, suction, basic tracheostomy setup with no oxygen, and HFHS VAD support.
  • Read and interpret insurance documents, medical records, and written orders.
  • Chart in detail, both written and in applicable database, ongoing patient care.
  • Coordinate and perform PAP set-ups, mask refits, pressure changes, and assist with patient-owned equipment repair processing.
  • Perform basic respiratory procedures including cpap, bipap, and basic trach with no oxygen.
  • Provide appropriate deliveries, set-up, and instruction as assigned to respiratory customers.
  • Provide plan of service / plan of treatment services to evaluate, assess and meet customer needs, goals, and requirements.
  • Assist Medical Equipment Technicians with oxygen concentrator maintenance service as needed.
  • Coordinate and perform quality assurance and maintenance services on respiratory therapy items.
  • Deliver and instruct customers and/or caregivers on the proper and safe use of oxygen concentrators, liquid oxygen systems, cylinder oxygen systems, and respiratory items.
  • Instruct customers and/or caregivers on infection control procedures and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Coordinate and/or complete all equipment maintenance management records as required by the company.
  • Coordinate and assist with obtaining all prescriptions and/or Certificate of Medical Necessity forms required for internal and external policies and regulations and for billing to insurance companies.
  • Conduct or arrange in-service for staff relating to respiratory equipment services.
  • Gather any needed customer or insurance information as required.
  • Fill out appropriate paperwork (e.g., Plan of Care, order invoices) and maintain computer database as needed.
  • Perform Service calls as needed, including assisting Medical Equipment Technicians with other DME deliveries when needed.
  • Provide customer service support as needed to address patient calls, questions, or orders, including triaging of trouble calls or equipment failures.
  • Be available for 24-hour on-call assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
