About The Position

Provides treatment, management, diagnostic evaluation, and care of adult, neonatal and pediatric patients with deficiencies and abnormalities in the cardiopulmonary system.

Requirements

  • Recent experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in a Level III NICU
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Washington.
  • Registry Eligible Certification (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Graduation from a two- or four-year Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Care program resulting in an Associate or Baccalaureate degree.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification by date of hire
  • NRP within 3 months of hire
  • PALS within 3 months of hire

  • Additional certification/registration specific to neonatal care NPS, Neonatal Pediatric Specialist by the National Board of Respiratory Care

Responsibilities

  • Conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve maintenance of patient airways.
  • Attends high-risk newborn deliveries with resuscitation/oxygen equipment.
  • Trained and skilled in infant intubation for routine, uncomplicated meconium deliveries.
  • Sets priorities for respiratory care of neonatal and pediatric patients as needed using clinical assessment skills.
  • Collects and evaluates pertinent clinical information through assessment and patient evaluation.
  • Based on patient evaluation, determines the need for appropriate oxygen delivery devices of respiratory support.
  • Inspects chest x-rays to determine the presence and position of an artificial airway or changes in the thorax.
  • Evaluates and monitors patient’s response to respiratory therapy and recommends changes in parameters for oxygen delivery devices and mechanical ventilation systems, as per protocol under direction of the physician.
  • Conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve broncho-hygiene and to administer prescribed pharmacologic agents, including bedside spirometry and pulmonary mechanics.
  • Performs assessment and treatment techniques based on patient’s age specific growth and development needs.
  • Initiates, conducts, and modifies respiratory support techniques in an emergency setting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
