About the position

The Residential Treatment Specialist (RTS) provides direct service to children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional disorders in a residential setting. This role involves supervising residents, teaching daily living and social skills, managing behavior, and implementing treatment plans. The RTS is expected to model cooperative teamwork and maintain a professional, ethical, and therapeutic demeanor at all times with residents and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor the whereabouts and activities of all assigned residents during the scheduled shift.
  • Maintain current knowledge through participation in mandatory training.
  • Understand the treatment goals of the program and the RTS role in residential treatment.
  • Manage the behavior of residents using approved behavioral management interventions.
  • Implement individual behavior management plans for residents through a teamwork approach.
  • Supervise and monitor residents' self-administration of medication.
  • Monitor physical vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate as needed.
  • Provide transportation for residents as needed within program guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain a caring and therapeutic relationship with residents.
  • Maintain program records and daily logs, ensuring accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field.
  • 5 years of related experience in human services, child welfare, or crisis intervention.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid driver's license with approval/authorization by DCFS to transport children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis intervention and patient monitoring.
  • Knowledge of child development and childhood disorders.
  • Leadership and teaching skills.
