About the position

The Residential Counselor (Part-Time Overnight) position at Ettie Lee Youth & Family Services involves working with Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) youth in a 24/7 residential setting. The role is crucial in providing direct care and support to at-risk youth, helping them manage their responses to trauma and ensuring their daily needs are met. The counselor will utilize a Trauma-Informed Approach to create a safe and supportive environment for the residents.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily living environment of the home, supporting clients in school.
• Work closely with therapists and coordinate with Administrators and the Program Manager.
• Help residents manage their responses to traumatic stress, including behaviors such as running away, fighting, and substance use.
• Provide daily leisure-time and recreation activities for residents.
• Ensure medical and dental needs of residents are met.
• Prepare and distribute meals and assist with clothing shopping.
• Document client progress and maintain records.
• Maintain a safe and clean living environment.

Requirements

• Must have a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree, or a valid Child Development Teaching Permit, or completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
• Must have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor with at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
• Must have previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term residential therapeutic center for at least one year.
• Must be able to pass a criminal/fingerprinting background check, TB Test, physical exam, and drug test.
• Must have a valid California Driver's License with a minimum of 5 years of driving experience and a DMV record acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier.
• Must be 21 years or older.
