About the position

The Resident Assistant (RA) assists older or disabled people who are functionally, physically, and/or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight. The RA's role is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering at all times residents' independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy Good Shepherd Services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance as needed with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, mobility devices, and care of ADL devices.
  • Provides assistance as needed with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living such as telephone assistance, housekeeping tasks, laundry, escorting residents, and mail delivery.
  • Assists residents with administration of medications, including monitoring of medication supplies and documentation.
  • Observes and reports changes in residents' physical condition and cognitive and emotional status to the Director/LPN as needed.
  • Conducts room checks and resident rounds, monitors for environment safety hazards, and records incidents, errors, or accidents.
  • Assists in a variety of tasks relating to dining, encouraging independence, and may be required to prepare meals and snacks.
  • Responsible for participating in and supporting the resident-centered activity program, including transporting residents for activities.
  • Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations.
  • Cleans commons areas on schedule and as needed, and replaces items such as light bulbs and garbage liners.

Requirements

  • Experience in a caregiving role or similar position.
  • Ability to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  • Strong communication skills to interact with residents and staff.
  • Ability to observe and report changes in residents' conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a residential care facility.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of medication administration procedures.

Benefits

  • $20.50 - $22.00 per hour based on experience, including $4.00 for shift differential.
  • Flexible scheduling with 48 hours per 2-week pay period, including every other weekend and holiday.
