About the position

This position will be filled as a P1 - Residences Education Coordinator Assistant (RECA) or a P2 - Residences Education Coordinator (REC). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The Residence Education Coordinator Assistant (RECA) - (P1) is an entry level full-time professional, live-on position within University Residences with a 12-month apartment and board plan. The RECA is closely supervised and is responsible for developing strong, inclusive residential communities with a curricular focus. This position will form relationships with individual students, faculty and staff, including coaching and supervising student staff and mentoring graduate students. Under the direction of leadership, responsible for leading residence operations in a way that creates and maintains a positive, intercultural, learner-centered community. The RECA will promote, encourage, and reward student learning, academic success, and co-curricular participation. Responsible for fostering an atmosphere of respect for individual differences and community values and advising and supporting student groups. The RECA will facilitate and develop a nurturing residential community, responding to sensitive issues and fostering a supporting environment for a highly diverse population. Responsibilities

  • Develop strong, inclusive residential communities with a curricular focus.
  • Form relationships with individual students, faculty, and staff.
  • Coach and supervise student staff and mentor graduate students.
  • Lead residence operations to create and maintain a positive, intercultural, learner-centered community.
  • Promote, encourage, and reward student learning, academic success, and co-curricular participation.
  • Foster an atmosphere of respect for individual differences and community values.
  • Advise and support student groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree for RECA or Master's degree in Higher Education or related field for REC.
  • 0-1 year of work experience in residential life or student affairs for RECA.
  • 1 year of professional work experience in residential life or student affairs for REC.
  • Graduate experience will be considered for REC.
  • Ability to support a culture of professionalism in alignment with unit values.
  • Skills in decision making, problem solving, continuous improvement, change management, strategic thinking, financial management, and drive for results.
  • Skills in supervision, leading others, and promoting teamwork.
  • Ability to work and thrive under limited supervision.
  • Ability to understand and interpret related local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds.
  • Desire to increase knowledge and skills through ongoing development activities.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • A valid US or Canadian Driver's License.
