About the position

The Researcher 3 position in the Basic Translational Research Division at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities involves conducting experiments with in vitro and in vivo tumor models to develop novel therapies aimed at enhancing cancer immunotherapies. The role requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently while also collaborating closely with other scientists in the lab. The researcher will be responsible for maintaining lab standards, performing data analysis, and contributing to scientific writing and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments and process samples, including maintaining cell culture lines and conducting molecular biology assays.
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring a clean and organized lab environment.
  • Initiate and revise lab standard operating procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
  • Analyze data from molecular biology assays and maintain organized spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
  • Interpret and summarize experimental data in reports and present findings at lab meetings.
  • Assist in the writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.

Requirements

  • BA/BS and 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience totaling 6 years.
  • At least 1 year of direct experience with in vitro cell culture techniques, handling mouse experiments, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with experimental recordkeeping and maintaining sample inventories.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory assays such as protein extraction, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and Western Blotting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a lab setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with conducting research according to scientific protocols and summarizing data for reporting.
  • Experience with in vitro models for medical research, particularly preclinical therapies.
  • Experience with fluorescent microscopy.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice and regulations.
