About The Position

The Research Foundation of SUNY is seeking a Research Support Specialist to support a research project or program for Dr. Hwan Kim in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. This role involves operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, and collating and interpreting data using special methods within defined test or analytical protocols. The successful incumbent will possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field in hand by hire date.
Full-time experience with experimental procedures and data analysis in biology-related fields (outside of classes).

Nice To Haves

Experience with microbiology research handling bacterial cultures with aseptic technique.
Experience with in vitro tissue culture infection models.
Experience with molecular biology techniques.
Experience with animal handling.

Responsibilities

Perform experiments with Staphylococcus aureus and study the bacterial survival and mutational frequencies.
Conduct experiments with recombinant approaches to define mutations impacting Staphylococcus aureus biology and virulence through biochemical analysis, molecular methods, and in vivo modeling.
General laboratory maintenance, including media and buffer preparation, laboratory organization, biohazard waste removal, preparation of reagents and glassware, and assisting the laboratory manager.
Document data generated in studies, analyze data with appropriate statistical methods, prepare reports and presentations for laboratory members, supervisor, and the research community.
Other duties as assigned.
