About the position

The Research Specialist III at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is responsible for performing complex research work, data collection, and analysis to support the Texas Civil Commitment Office (TCCO). This role involves developing and maintaining research data sets, documenting data structures, and creating audit and monitoring tools using advanced Microsoft Excel functions. The specialist will also compile and analyze data to produce reports that assist management in decision-making and compliance monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain research data sets and document data structures.
  • Create audit and monitoring tools using advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting for existing audit and monitoring tools.
  • Complete fiscal year conversion of audit and monitoring tools.
  • Utilize historical data and trend forecasting for caseload projections.
  • Monitor progress toward meeting projections and provide updates to management.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis for ad hoc reports as assigned by management.
  • Compile information related to filed bills during legislative sessions.
  • Plan, develop, and monitor research projects, including data gathering and analysis.
  • Conduct long- and short-term studies on agency programs.

Requirements

  • Experience in data collection and analysis utilizing Microsoft Excel.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, government or political science, statistical analysis, research methodology, mathematics, or management information systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in report writing and editing.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods for research analysis.
  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research.
