About the position

The Research Engineer - Materials Science at GE Vernova Research will lead and contribute to the development of technologies related to solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells. This role focuses on creating sustainable solutions to address challenges in the energy transition and sustainability fuels, aligning with GE Vernova's mission to electrify and decarbonize for a zero-carbon future. The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders to drive innovation in energy conversion and storage technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead projects in energy conversion and storage, specifically solid oxide fuel cells and electrolysis cells.
  • Conduct and lead basic and applied research including materials discovery and ceramic processing.
  • Develop and optimize thick film and screen printing processes for fuel cells.
  • Perform fuel cells testing, postmortem analysis, and advanced materials characterization.
  • Analyze performance and stability data and modeling.
  • Work independently to guide the development of new technologies and capabilities for solid oxide cells.
  • Design and execute experiments to benefit GE Vernova businesses and customers.
  • Shape proposals with GE Vernova businesses, government agencies, universities, and national laboratories.
  • Contribute and lead proposal teams as Principal Investigator or team member.
  • Formulate system requirements for energy conversion projects.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Coordinate analytical work to meet or exceed customer entitlements.
  • Identify new technology, products, and service opportunities in energy conversion and storage.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Materials Science, Ceramics, Electrochemistry, or related field with a minimum of 18 years of experience in developing solid oxide cells, or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 20 years of experience.
  • Proven record of innovation in energy storage and conversion technologies, including solid oxide fuel or electrolysis cells.
  • Practical knowledge of safety practices related to experimental design and lab practices.
  • Demonstrated project execution experience and teamwork ability across functions and levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in ceramic and glass processing for SOFC applications.
  • Experience at a commercial solid oxide cell manufacturer or government research facility.
  • Demonstrated history of project leadership, publications, and IP generation in solid oxide fuel or electrolysis cells.
  • Strong data analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
