The following position is to join our Research Center: RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) serves as the innovation hub for RTX. We conduct basic and applied research in a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment where scientists, engineers, practitioners, and subject matter experts collaborate and exchange experience. By combining a passion for science and research with precision engineering we create smart and sustainable solutions and products that help our businesses shape the future. The Aerodynamics & Acoustics team at RTX Technology Research Center invites individuals with aerodynamics and/or aeroacoustics expertise and strong analytical and numerical physics-based modeling skills to apply for an open position. We are seeking a Senior Research Engineer to join our cohesive team of engineers and technicians who are focused on developing innovative technologies and solving challenging problems for aerospace and defense applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams in areas such as propulsion systems, turbomachinery, compression systems, and high-speed flows.
  • Deliver advanced technology through creative analysis and problem solving; select and deploy appropriate modeling fidelity for a given problem including the application of high-fidelity computational models.
  • Communicate research results effectively through both verbal and written means.
  • Participate in the creation of research proposals to RTX business units and government agencies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or closely related field and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or closely related field and minimum 3 years experience or a PhD mechanical or aerospace engineering, or closely related field.
  • Experience in fluid mechanics / aerodynamics / aeroacoustics / aeroelastics as applied to propulsion systems, rotor technologies, turbomachinery, compression systems, or high-speed flows with experience in the application of computational fluid dynamics in one or more of these areas.
  • Experience in the application of analytical skills towards the development of new technologies.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or closely related field.
  • Ph.D. candidates with no formal experience will be considered. M.S. candidates must have 3+ years of experience in a relevant work environment.
  • Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Communication skills, informal and formal presentation skills, and ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Experience managing uncertain requirements, develop approaches to solve problems, and recognize when additional subject matter expertise is needed.
