The Research Assistant will assist with experiments to examine the cellular processes by which specific genetic variants modify neurodegeneration phenotypes associated with ALS. The Research Assistant will use genetic, cell biological and molecular techniques to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic suppression of locomotor and neuronal defects apparent in the disease state. This research will make use of Drosophila as a model system. In addition to assisting with specific experiments that involve genetic crosses, tissue dissections, immunohistochemistry, imaging, molecular techniques and biochemical assays, the research assistant will also help perform-omic analyses. The Research Assistant will also engage in and assist with general lab support duties. This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire which may be extended based upon available funding.
