About the position

The Research Assistant will be responsible for reading sentences from accounting earnings conference calls and classifying those sentences as to the context of the sentences and then inputting what words from those sentences that made the research assistant (a human being with reasonable accounting/business knowledge and acumen) classify the sentences as such. The supervisor will use the research assistants' human inputs to create a large language model to apply to over 39 million sentences in earnings conference calls. This work could be done anywhere and anytime you have a computer and an internet connection to send and receive the files the research supervisor would send to the research assistant (likely in Excel spreadsheets). Regular work with at least 10 hours a week (but up to 20 hours a week) for the Fall 2024 semester is required. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Accounting majors and seniors with ACCT 37203. Intermediate Accounting.
  • ACCT 37503. Intermediate Accounting II (at least concurrent enrollment).
  • ACCT 49603. Audit and Assurance Services (at least concurrent enrollment).

Nice-to-haves

  • Accounting majors and seniors with ACCT 201H3. Honors Accounting Principles.
