About the position

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to ongoing NIH funded research projects in the Section of Nephrology. The mission of the center is to eliminate cancer through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research, and education. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background, including a BS in a relevant scientific field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, with a preference for a Master's degree. Responsibilities include designing, executing, and analyzing experiments, as well as interpreting and presenting results. Effective communication and collaboration are vital in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing research protocols and experimental methodologies.
  • Conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data using state-of-the-art scientific techniques.
  • Troubleshooting experimental issues and implementing necessary modifications.
  • Applying statistical methods and data modeling techniques to analyze and interpret experimental results.
  • Summarizing and visualizing data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborating with team members to draw meaningful conclusions and propose further research directions.
  • Preparing technical reports, research papers, and presentations.
  • Communicating research findings internally and externally through various channels.
  • Participating in conferences and scientific meetings to showcase research contributions.
  • Sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and mentoring junior team members.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of research processes and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
  • One year experience in scientific or experimental research work.
  • Strong technical skills including proficiency in scientific data analysis software.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with advanced research methodologies and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong presentation skills to convey complex scientific concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree (M.S.) in a relevant scientific field.
