About The Position

The Research Assistant II in the Bartel Lab within Gastroenterology will serve as a resource for the department, demonstrating competence in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors. This role involves performing experiments, analyzing data, and assisting in lab administration. The position requires effective communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders, and maintaining strong working relationships. The assistant will also be responsible for troubleshooting equipment, managing lab supplies, maintaining cell cultures, and ensuring safety monitoring checks are performed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource for the department in specific area(s).
  • Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.
  • Stay abreast of changes in key systems.
  • Follow research protocol.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Analyze data; perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel.
  • Reproduce and evaluate techniques and results for accuracy.
  • Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques.
  • Assist in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
  • Respond to requests quickly and effectively.
  • Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meets them.
  • Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain cell cultures.
  • Operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Use and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
  • Respond to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment.
  • Assist in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Provide appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).
