About the position

The Reproductive Health Assistant (RHA) I performs the basic duties of a medical assistant, such as maintaining medical records, logs, and inventory counts; performing routine clerical duties; performing basic lab work; and responding to patient inquiries and needs, including fee assessment and insurance coverage. This position works under the supervision of the Health Center Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all duties related to providing care to patients.
  • Respond to patient needs and inquiries.
  • Provide support to other staff throughout patient visits.
  • Maintain knowledge of services provided by PPIL and associated fees.
  • Provide patient-centered customer service.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Communicate with patients, the public, staff, and volunteers in a civil, courteous, warm, and sensitive manner.
  • Treat all people with honor, respect, and inclusivity.
  • Complete all required training for level 1 proficiencies and standards within three months.
  • Ensure that each patient receives the care and information they need.
  • Participate in Health Center efforts in compliance with organizational quality assurance guidelines.
  • Provide information, assistance, and support for patients facing emotional, family, and/or financial problems related to healthcare.
  • Provide medications and contraceptive supplies, and maintain inventory count.
  • Assist in clerical and informational tasks related to proper follow-up of patients.
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of PPIL equipment.
  • Participate in routine Health Center chart audits and quality assurance procedures.
  • Provide PPIL approved information about family planning methods and other services.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PPIL protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PPIL core values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous professional experience with the provision of family planning services is preferred.
  • Previous medical laboratory and/or counseling experience is preferred.
  • Previous familiarity with computer systems, such as electronic health record (EHR) software, is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional training and/or education in reproductive health or medical services is desirable.
  • Bi-lingual ability in Spanish or other languages common to PPIL patients is helpful.
