About the position

The Patient Financial Services Representative (PFSR) serves as the first point of contact for patients and guarantors in various healthcare settings. This role is crucial in gathering and verifying demographic, financial, and insurance eligibility information to ensure a smooth patient experience. The PFSR is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and guarantors in a courteous manner.
  • Obtain and verify demographic, financial, and insurance information.
  • Ensure all required notices and consent forms are signed.
  • Guide patients to appropriate destinations for services.
  • Obtain pre-certification and authorization for services.
  • Verify insurance benefits and confirm coverage is active.
  • Explain policies and secure required signatures on consent forms.
  • Perform patient discharge functions, including reviewing after visit summaries and scheduling future appointments.
  • Interview patients and guarantors to collect necessary information and identification.
  • Schedule walk-in appointments for services offered.
  • Collect patient out-of-pocket responsibilities per collection guidelines.
  • Prepare and balance daily deposits of payment collections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and decisive judgment abilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • One (1) year of related hospital, medical office, or customer service experience preferred.
