About The Position

Under the direct supervision of licensed clinical staff, this role assists therapists in routine tasks for the therapeutic treatment of patients. The Rehab Aide also assists the department supervisor/manager in coordinating the overall department’s function and maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)
  • INSTRUCTOR- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH)

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year healthcare–related experience preferred.
  • Previous rehabilitation experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care activities as directed by therapist, including patient room/treatment area set ups, setting up patients on exercise equipment, activities related to video fluoroscopic swallow studies, providing second person assist, obtaining assistive devices (Hoyer, Spryte, etc.) as needed, and obtaining durable medical equipment and paperwork.
  • Provide treatment to assigned patients as appropriate under the direct supervision of clinical staff.
  • Perform activities that help maintain the flow of patient care in the department.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the department’s overall physical environment.
  • Maintain practices according to infection control guidelines for the department.
  • Monitor pool chemistry per departmental guidelines as applicable to area.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment per departmental guidelines.
  • Perform and document quality control of identified equipment.
  • Document temperature checks of identified equipment.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly departmental checklists.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the DME and supply closets.
  • Complete audits for walkers, gait belts and chairs on patient units as applicable to area.
  • Perform clerical duties to assist with daily operations of the department, including scheduling appointments, answering phones, calling patients, inventory management, photocopying and filing, faxing and scanning, data collection, daily/weekly/monthly departmental checklists, and co-payment/payment collection as applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, peers, colleagues, patients, and family members.
  • Alert manager/clinician to any immediate departmental/patient issues.
  • Appropriately use all forms of South Shore Health communication in accordance with standard practices.
  • Respond in a timely manner when feedback is requested.
  • Serve as mentor to new rehabilitation aide staff.
  • Actively participate in department projects/events/activities/meetings.
  • Actively promote rehabilitation services to frontline colleagues, patients, and families.
  • Serve as departmental ambassador to visitors (tours/observation of patient care).
  • Assist with continuous Quality Improvement activities, as directed.
  • Take responsibility for continuing professional development education.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures.
  • Embrace technological advances that allow for effective and efficient communication of information.
  • Accurately use all software applications as needed for job performance.
  • Maintain a professional and appropriate manner of conversation.

  • Complete clinical and non-clinical tasks as well as assigned activities according to policies, practice guidelines and assigned deadlines.
