About the position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago plays a vital role in providing basic daily care to patients and supporting their significant others. This position is integral to maintaining a clean and orderly patient care environment while assisting with various routine technical tasks. The PCT is expected to demonstrate core attributes such as communication, accountability, and customer service, contributing to the institute's mission of advancing human ability through innovative care.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic daily care to patients, including hygiene and daily living activities.
- Perform routine technical tasks such as taking vital signs and collecting specimens.
- Document patient care activities and report changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
- Assist in transferring patients and patient care equipment as needed.
- Orient patients and families to the care environment and safety protocols.
- Monitor supply needs and ensure adequate inventory at bedside.
- Implement interventions as directed by the registered nurse.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- CNA Certification or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program required.
- Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician orientation is required.
- Demonstrated competency in applying principles of growth and development across various patient age groups.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to adapt to changing work demands and environments.
- Critical thinking skills to monitor and respond to patient needs.
