About the position
The position involves interviewing patients to obtain accurate and complete demographic and insurance information necessary for the admission and registration of patients at various locations throughout UH. The role ensures that the Patient Billing Department can bill timely and correctly for the services rendered. Additionally, the position requires communication with privately paying patients regarding service charges and assisting them with payment arrangements. Responsibilities also include collecting copays, coinsurance, and other payments owed by patients, as well as gathering appropriate admission forms required by Medicare, Medicaid, insurance companies, and other agencies.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients to obtain accurate and complete demographic and insurance information.
- Complete the admission and registration of all patients at various locations throughout UH.
- Ensure the Patient Billing Department can bill timely and correctly for services rendered.
- Communicate with privately paying patients about service charges and assist with payment arrangements.
- Collect copays, coinsurance, and other payments owed by patients.
- Collect appropriate forms for admission as required by Medicare, Medicaid, insurance companies, and/or other agencies.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- Six (6) months experience in a hospital/physician setting, obtaining insurance benefits and pre-certification is preferred.
- Prior collection experience is preferred.
- Billing experience and contract knowledge is preferred.
- One year of experience in a similar occupation is preferred.
- Basic medical terminology and ICD 9 coding experience is preferred.
