About the position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist I position at Atrium Health South Park FSED involves providing direct respiratory care in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. The role includes administering therapeutic procedures, monitoring ventilators, and ensuring effective patient care in a fast-paced environment, particularly during night shifts. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus and offers opportunities for professional development through the Respiratory Clinical Ladder.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of direct respiratory care according to physician's orders and approved protocols.
  • Consult with physicians on the effectiveness of therapy and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Provide ventilator support and maintain cardiopulmonary life support equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in various modes and methods of oxygen delivery and conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures.
  • Administer therapeutic procedures and perform diagnostic procedures as outlined in policy.
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical and non-invasive ventilators.
  • Evaluate current therapies and make recommendations concerning plans of care and patient education needs.
  • Document therapy and results as required by hospital and regulatory agencies.
  • Communicate information to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
  • Initiate and modify respiratory care techniques in emergency settings.
  • Perform and evaluate blood sampling analysis and understand the treatment of abnormal results.
  • Work independently in all patient care areas and assist co-workers with patient care.
  • Proficiently use electronic medical records and follow departmental safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care.
  • Associate's RRT or RRT Equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in North Carolina.
  • BLS certification required per policy guidelines.
  • 2 years of critical care experience required for free-standing Emergency Department and Virtual Critical Care.
