About The Position

Provides advanced clinical, procedural, and patient care support within the Radiology Department under the supervision of a licensed radiologist. Responsibilities include patient assessment, imaging assistance, procedural support, and compliance with Florida regulations, hospital privileging, and accreditation standards. The Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) serves as an advanced-level radiologic technologist supporting diagnostic and interventional radiology services across the hospital and affiliated outpatient sites. This role ensures high-quality patient care, procedural efficiency, and regulatory compliance through direct collaboration with radiologists. All duties are performed within a privilege-based framework, requiring documented competency, supervision, and adherence to Florida law. The RRA does not independently interpret imaging studies and functions strictly under physician supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
  • Completion of an accredited Radiologist Assistant program
  • Active Florida Radiologic Technologist License
  • ARRT certification in Radiography
  • ARRT Radiologist Assistant certification (R.R.A. or CRA)
  • Additional certification required for nuclear medicine duties (if applicable)
  • Masters or Doctoral Degree
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Full compliance with Florida regulatory and hospital privileging requirements
  • Accurate and complete clinical documentation
  • Safe performance of all procedures within scope and supervision
  • High patient satisfaction and quality care delivery
  • Adherence to supervision requirements (personal, direct, general)
  • Zero unauthorized procedures outside granted privileges

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessment, including history and physical evaluation
  • Assist radiologists with diagnostic and interventional procedures
  • Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures
  • Provide patient education and post-procedure instructions
  • Document patient encounters, progress notes, and discharge summaries
  • Perform fluoroscopic procedures (e.g., GI studies, cystograms)
  • Administer contrast media under direct supervision
  • Perform venography, IVP, and related imaging procedures
  • Evaluate imaging for quality and completeness
  • Communicate findings to supervising radiologist
  • Perform lumbar puncture and myelograms (personal supervision required)
  • Perform paracentesis and thoracentesis
  • Perform central venous catheter placement and exchanges
  • Perform PICC line placement
  • Perform arthrograms, joint injections, and biopsies
  • Perform gastrostomy tube placement
  • Assist with angiography (radiologist performs vascular access)
  • Administer intravascular contrast media (direct supervision required)
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals if appropriately licensed
  • Monitor for adverse reactions and complications
  • Ensure compliance with Florida Department of Health regulations, hospital bylaws and privileging requirements, Joint Commission and ACR standards, and radiation safety and infection control policies
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives
  • Assist in incident review and patient safety reporting
  • Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to protocols
  • Assist with workflow optimization and patient throughout
  • Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, and nursing staff
  • Support training and onboarding of staff as needed
