About the position

In the Registered Nurse role you will serve male and female Veterans with age ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. Central Texas VAHCS is an interdisciplinary facility servicing outpatient, 24/7 residential Community Living Center, and Domiciliary. You will work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignment and make the Veteran the priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate/participate in Patient Safety activities that result in improved outcomes.
  • Implement an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs.
  • Educate colleagues and serve as a preceptor and/or mentor on patient safety initiatives and standards.
  • Support and enhance client self-determination.
  • Serve as a resource for clients and staff in addressing ethical issues.
  • Participate in ethics consultations.
  • Collaborate with others in research activities to improve care.
  • Identify and assess resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States.
