About the position

The position involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The nurse will develop care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams, ensuring effective communication and coordination of care. The role emphasizes maintaining high standards of nursing practice and patient safety while supporting the overall health and well-being of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation.
  • Develops nursing care plans in coordination with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff.
  • Communicates changes in patients' clinical conditions with physicians and nursing supervisors.
  • Participates in the discharge planning process.
  • Maintains nursing care standards and implements hospital policies and procedures.
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
  • Assigns or delegates tasks based on patient needs and staff capabilities.
  • Documents patient assessments, care plans, and other relevant information in medical records.
  • Performs patient assessments on admission and reassessments as per policy.
  • Makes referrals to other disciplines based on assessments.
  • Assesses and reassesses pain and utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Educates patients and families regarding pain management.
  • Revises care plans based on patient responses to treatment and evaluates effectiveness daily.
  • Receives and documents physician orders accurately.
  • Administers medication following the five rights of medication administration.
  • Formulates and evaluates teaching plans based on identified learning needs.
  • Assists physicians with examinations and treatments within the scope of practice.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Interacts professionally with patients and families, involving them in care planning.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in a safe environment.
  • Initiates emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients' conditions.
  • Answers calls and anticipates patients' needs, making rounds as appropriate.
  • Consults with other departments for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
  • Provides end-of-shift reports to oncoming nurses and ensures documentation is complete.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • BCLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
  • Minimum six months of Medical/Surgical experience in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stress.
  • Good working relationship skills within and across departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • ACLS certification preferred.
