About the position

The Registered Nurse in the Vascular Access Team at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is responsible for performing IV insertions and managing vascular access devices for both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves responding to emergencies, collaborating with healthcare teams, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. The position emphasizes patient-centered care and includes precepting others in IV skills.

Responsibilities

  • Insert peripheral IVs and peripherally inserted central catheters for patients.
  • Respond to traumas, Rapid Responses, and Code Blues.
  • Support staff with IV site checks and dressing changes of centrally placed lines.
  • Access centrally placed devices (Port-A-Caths).
  • Participate in quality improvement activities related to vascular access devices.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members in the delivery of care.
  • Demonstrate a patient and family-focused care model.
  • Precept others in learning IV insertion skills as needed.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • 1+ year experience as an RN, preferably in pediatrics.
  • PALS and BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Broad knowledge of patient care principles and equipment.
  • Ability to assess effectiveness of patient care and maintain a calm demeanor in crises.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pediatric experience preferred.
