About the position
The Registered Nurse position at York Hospital involves providing professional nursing care in accordance with patient and family-centered care principles. The role requires acting as a primary nurse for patients on the unit, coordinating care planning with other disciplines, and ensuring safe and effective nursing interventions. The position is full-time, requiring 36 hours per week, with shifts from 7pm to 7am, including every third weekend and one major/minor holiday per year. The unit specializes in the care of patients with neurological issues, orthopedic, and trauma care, and requires nurses to be lifelong learners committed to professional development.
Responsibilities
- Provides and coordinates direct care in accordance with patient and family-centered care principles.
- Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit.
- Safely administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions.
- Organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workload.
- Identifies changes in patients' status and acts accordingly.
- Communicates individualized patient needs for safe handoffs during transitions of care.
- Documents patient responses to interventions and progress toward outcomes.
- Promotes a professional practice environment that supports patient safety and quality.
- Begins to provide leadership for problem solving and goal formation.
- Delegates aspects of care to other nursing personnel.
- Promotes collaboration among physicians, nursing staff, and other team members.
Requirements
- Diploma Program or Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- No prior work experience required.
- Licensed Registered Nurse upon hire required.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire required.
